Q&A
Q: what software do you use to make your stuff?
A: these.
Flash CS6
GarageBand
MS Paint
Q: what's with all the music?
A: the inspiration for adding music in the first place was from looking at old WebTV footage, where they had background music as you browse the internet. either that or the Sega Dreamcast's browser, which also did the same.
the original plan was to make all the music in .MOD or .XM format and find an existing HTML5 player that would embed and play those formats. unfortunately i couldn't find such a thing. the Links page was the one remnant of that idea, with the song being made in OpenMPT, a tracker software.
A: WHAT MUSIC?? YOU'RE ON MOBILE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Q: ...what's with the rat?
A: short answer: i don't care what anybody says, i think rats are cool.
long answer: Vail actually came from a completely scrapped concept for a comic i was working on during my latter years of high school. he was meant to be a side character in the comic, a total nerd stereotype who liked making homebrew games for older hardware, but after i ultimately gave up on that comic, something about him said "...yeah thats me." and his design slowly changed over time, and his personality shifted into an exaggerated mirror of myself irl.
since then, i've grown more fond of rats and other rodents. dunno if i'll ever own a pet rat myself cause of their tragically short lifespan, but i can't help but adore those 'lil guys.

one of the earliest drawings of vailRat, when he was just a stereotypical nerd. he's just asking for a wedgie.

this is what he looks like now. still a nerd.

also the irony of being a pretty tall guy and having a small rodent for a sona is pretty funny to me.
as for why his name's Vail, first of all, no i've never been to Colorado, neither have i personally lived there, and secondly, the name came from me searching up a list of Microsoft Windows codenames to really push the geeky nature of him. Vail just so happened to be one of them, and it just stuck ever since.
Q: why does the website look like that?
A: there was a bit of influence from Nintendo's Website from around 2001 to 2006, maybe a bit of the old Cartoon Network site from around that time and Newgrounds too, but generally, i was trying to bring back the more interactive and playful feel of early-to-mid 2000's web design, when there was a bit more artistic intent behind the design of these sites, before mobile kind of made everything too streamlined all across the board. you can read more about it in the site's about page.
Q: how often do you plan on updating your site?
A: whenever i feel like it.
updates tend to vary in scope. sometimes it's as simple as adding new animation, art, or music in the works pages, or just fixing a few bugs. then there's adding whole new pages, writing up a blog post, implementing a new little feature that seems simple at first, but ends up taking up my whole day to implement, and of course, the rare site overhaul, just completely refreshing the look of the site.
Q: do you use AI in any of your work?
A: no and i plan to keep it that way.
Q: do you plan on using AI anytime in the future?
A: see previous answer.
Q: have you ever considered using AI for-
A:
NO.
Q: did you code all this yourself?
A: yes! ...with the help of W3schools, online forums, feedback from friends, and my HTML instructor from college and her very helpful assistant.
no LMMs were involved during the making of this site, cause why vibecode when you can code for the vibes~
